~ Desiree Carver Thomas, CC'09

"I love Cliff Massey because he's fun, he's responsible, he's organized, and he's everything rolled into one!"
~ Evelyn Phan, CC'10
Connect Columbia. Serve Columbia. This is our motto and it is a snapshot of our vision for CCSC. All five of us are dedicated to working hard for the student body. We want to connect you, your friends, and your student groups to the resources of CCSC. Together, we can make a difference and improve student life on this campus. We need you to believe in us. We want you to become an active part of this campaign so, please, learn what we stand for; but more importantly, speak to us and tell us what is most important for you.

If elected, we intend to work for you by:
  • Creating coalitions between CCSC, students, and student groups to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Saving Space for Students to alleviate the need for space to study and host group events.
  • Serving your day-to-day needs through improved programming that takes advantage of New York City, helping your pocketbook, and more satellite gyms.

  • Why Connect Columbia?

    We represent the Community:

Although there are only five of us, we make up a diverse cross-section of this campus. This multiplicity of backgrounds and experiences will allow us to be effective representatives of the Columbia community. Collectively, we have served on over fifteen student groups. We are members of multicultural communities, Greek life, activist groups, campus publications, pre-professional organizations, and performance groups. We understand the sort of problems that you and your organizations face on a daily basis. Such understanding will inform us so we can serve you more effectively.

    Results not Rhetoric:

Connect Columbia is not about rhetoric. We are about results that improve your daily life at Columbia. We have the experience to deliver on our promises:

    Policy Track Record:
  • Created the new Pass/D/Fail Policy
  • Reformed Academic Advising and created the new Center for Student Advising
  • Lobbied to increase financial aid for middle class students
  • Increased the transparency of the CCSC budget
  • Encouraged professors to make course syllabi public during registration
  • Brought environmental issues to council's attention
  • Centralized Course Evaluations to eventually make the results public

  • Programming:
  • Helped organize the first ever Homecoming Carnival
  • Improved the quality of events to be held during College Days
  • Light-Blue community building campaign
  • Organized "Do It in the Dark Energy Competition" to reduce energy consumption
  • Semi-Formal of the Class of 2010
  • Backyard BBQ

  • Informed Innovation:

Through our experience on and beyond council, we know what works and does not work for CCSC. We understand where council can improve and we intend to make necessary reforms. Nevertheless, we have the perspective to implement pragmatic and feasible solutions. It is one thing to diagnose but it is another to cure.
